Planning Meeting for Pilgrim’s Trail Campout
To all Scouts and Parents,
It is important that you let your patrol leader or ASM know if you are going this campout. We need to get an accurate head count and your patrol needs to make sure they have enough food for everyone. If you are going, please turn in a permission slip to Mr. Sandoval. Copy of permission slip is attached.
I would like as many scout to show up tonight as possible since we will be taking a roll call on the patrols. The scribe will be taking names and turning in an accurate list of the patrols.
Also I still need volunteers for the crossover ceremony on Tuesday evening at the fire pit in the jebels. If you are interested please let me know tonight as we will be having a short meeting to give out scripts and let you know what time to show-up at the jebels for the ceremony. I could use another 3 or 4 boys for this.
See you tonight.
Mr. Ley
Sand Rose Campout
0SAND ROSE CAMPOUT
The Boy Scouts of America, Troop 1, camped out on November 3 to November 4 for a fun and sandy Sand Rose campout. The campout took place on the lush grass of the Dhahran Cricket Ground. We began the campout with a hasty troop formation and a detailed attendance check. Later, the scouts split off, doing their own things. Soccer, Uno, MadLibs, and football were among the many activities. At last, the fresh pizza came in. Ravenous scouts lined up for some fresh and delicious pizza. Laughter and fun filled the chilly atmosphere. At ten o’clock, the tired scouts retreated to their cozy tents for a serene night.
The scouts awoke to a fresh and crisp morning to some hearty cereal. The scouts broke down camp and placed all of the gear and the personal gear on the sidewalk to be placed inside the minibus. With the heat peaking during the day, the scouts boarded the buses to the desert to dig up some good ‘ole sand roses!

Christmas Gathering and Gift Exchange
0On Sunday, December 12, 2010, Troop 1 gathered for an end-of-year Christmas party and a gift exchange. Scouts excitedly walked in with a wrapped up gift in their hands. A table was set up to store the gifts for use later on. Pop, pizzas, and cakes were on the table, ready to eaten up by hungry Scouts. Class A-wearing Scouts were permitted to eat first, so they meandered over to the table to claim their food. Fresh cookies wafted their mesmerizing scents across the hall. Hordes of scouts waited in line to eat. Finally, every Scout and adult had gotten their food and they eat while they talked, laughed, socialized, and played. Joy, festivity, and laughter filled the teeming atmosphere to the brim. The room loudly rang with the spirit of the holidays.
Alas, the time came for the Christmas gift exchange. The table was now laden with presents and goodies for Scouts to choose. The procedure was that each scout would be assigned a number and the numbers would be called in numerical order to come up and choose a gift. Since they were all wrapped, no one knew what was under the wrapping. If a scout wanted the present that the previous scout had taken, they could do so and the empty-handed scout could do the same. Scouts proudly walked up to the table to choose a gift. Even the adults participated! Some of the presents included a flying pig, a six-foot long fork, a princess tiara kit, and five riyals. Even though there was somewhat of a din during the exchange, all went well and everything ran smoothly. Our minds were inevitably etched with the happiness and the fun of this memory. The congregation was indeed a celebration to cherish and remember.
Troop 1 of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, chartered by Saudi Aramco, wishes all of Dhahran community a happy holiday, a happy new year, and a safe vacation. See you all next year!

Halloween Party
0Halloween Party
By Bhargav Arimilli, Troop Scribe
On October 28. 2010, the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 1, hosted a Halloween party for all of the scouts of the troop. Scouts were invited to join in on the spooky fun to laugh, share, and have a good time. Mrs. Al Nashmi coordinated the event which began at 12:30 PM that afternoon. We all brought plenty of tasty snacks, including a mesmerizing peach cobbler crafted by Mrs. Al Nashmi.
The scouts mingled, talked, listened to music, and caught up with each other’s lives. We all sat down in a circle and shared a few Halloween jokes. The first activity we participated in was a costume parade. Participants paraded around the room in their frightfully fearsome costumes. Mr. Empleo and Mr. Al Nashmi served as judges. In the end, Eddie Erickson won the “Most Original Costume” category, Tariq Al Thenayan won the “Most Scariest Costume” category, and Nnamdi U. won the “Most Funniest Costume” category. The winning contestants were given a ribbon. The remaining contestants were given a poem book.
What came next? You guessed it. Food. There were coolers of water, juice, and soda. Pringles, chips, fruit roll ups, and candies were our diet for the afternoon.
Scouts were fully engaged in various games that were being conducted across the room. Some scouts even picked a baseball game using candy packets as the ball, a PVC tube as the bat, and cones as the bases. This was probably the most exciting period of the party, free time, I mean.
As they say, all good things must come to an end. The room, thankfully, wasn’t that much of a mess – we responsible Scouts took care of it all. Most of the snacks had been wiped out and the peach cobbler had vanished. To sum it all up, the party was a fun, simple, and unique way of celebrating Halloween.
The troop would like to thank Mrs. Al Nashmi for coordinating this event, which is obviously not an easy thing to do!
